Helping us to collect archives
If you know of any documents (in all forms) or born-digital records of historical significance relating to the City of Birmingham, its people, businesses, institutions and societies, we’d be happy to hear from you. We are keen to add to our collections so that they represent as many Birmingham people, groups and voices as possible. Our collections development policy sets out the types of material we can and can’t accept.
We are particularly interested in developing our holdings in the following areas:
- Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic individuals, groups and businesses
- Commonwealth heritage individuals and communities
- Records relating to disabled people
- Faith groups
- LGBTQ+ groups and individuals
- Small businesses
- Voluntary groups
- Arts organisations
- Charities
We are also keen to know about any Birmingham-related archive material which is at risk of damage, loss or destruction.
Should you know of any material which comes under the above criteria, you can email us at archives.heritage@birmingham.gov.uk in the first instance. Please don’t post or bring in material without contacting us first.
