Money advice and support

When you have several bills to pay, it is important to know which ones are the most important for you to pay first.

Certain debts, including rent, are called priority debts. You should pay these above other less important bills, such as charges for the internet. This is because the effect of not paying them is more serious.

For more information on priority debts, visit Money Helper.

What will happen if you build up rent arrears

If you do not pay your rent, you risk losing your home. If you lose your home because of rent arrears, the council is not responsible for giving you a new home.

You may also be seen as an unsuitable tenant. Many landlords, including the council and housing associations, could refuse to give you a future tenancy.

Help and support

Help and support are available to help you manage your debt.
