Accessing Council Tax Online

Sign in to your BRUM account select the option for Council Tax Online. The following services are available:

  • Direct Debit, set up or change
  • telling us you have moved to another address (whether within or out of Birmingham)
  • applying for discounts, single person, severely mentally impaired, student
  • finding a Council Tax band for a property

Landlords or agents can report tenants moving in or out of properties in Birmingham.

Most online services are updated immediately.

Authentication

To view up-to-date account balance information, you must verify who you are and allow your BRUM account details to be shared with the Council Tax system.

Select the option to ‘Tell us who you are’, confirm your name, account number and answer a security question. Once you have authenticated your account, you can view up-to-date account information, check balance and payments and update contact details.

If you change your address in your BRUM account you will also need to change it on Council Tax Online.

Known issues

If you select Council Tax Online, Sign up for ebilling, or Report a change and get an error message ‘sorry, an error has occurred, please contact support’ with a reference starting OAN, this may be because you are a full-time student living in a property with a non-student.

Student access to Council Tax Online

Full-time students living with non-students cannot be held liable for Council Tax. A full-time student will not have access to Council Tax Online.

When you stop being a full-time student, and are made liable for Council Tax, you will be able to access your Council Tax Online account.
