We are seeking to recruit volunteer Governors to serve on Governing Boards in schools across Birmingham.

Why volunteer?
Volunteering as a School Governor is a great opportunity to gain strategic leadership experience at board level as well as developing transferable skills that enhance performance and employability. Most of all, you will have the satisfaction of making a real difference to children's lives and helping them to realise their potential.
The core functions of a Governing Board
These include, but are not limited to ensuring:
- that the vision, ethos and strategic direction of the school are clearly defined
- that the headteacher performs their responsibilities for the educational performance of the school
- the sound, proper and effective use of the school’s financial resources
The time commitment
About 10 to 20 days per year spent:
- getting to know the school well
- attending meetings
- reading paperwork
- visiting the school from time-to-time
- undertaking relevant training
Qualifications needed
There are no specific qualifications for the role of Governor, but you do have to be aged 18 or over, and you will need the right attitude, enthusiasm and time to devote to the role.
