Pay and Grading

Birmingham cityscape line drawing with text: "Pay and grading. Reshaping for a fairer future."

Together, we are transforming the way we operate and deliver services to our citizens.

Reshaping our pay and grading is an important part of our Equal Pay Programme (EPP). This will help build a fair and positive workplace for everyone.

The information on pay and grading applies to all colleagues at:

  • Birmingham City Council (BCC)
  • Birmingham Children's Trust (BCT)
  • Acivico
  • colleagues working in non-teaching roles in schools where BCC is the employer

How we got here

We recognise things need to change and we are taking steps to do this. We are drawing a line under the past while taking important lessons with us into the future.

Our reshaped pay and grading structure will provide a fair and consistent approach to how we pay colleagues.

We understand this may raise questions or concerns. We want to answer any questions or concerns and reassure you this is a positive step for all colleagues.

We have been working with our 3 recognised trade unions to agree the new structure. The trade unions are:

  • GMB
  • Unison
  • Unite the Union

Details about the new pay and grading structure

We will publish details of the reshaped structure here, once agreed. Along with the structure we will share latest information, video, and webinars.
