Award categories

There are 5 award categories.

1. Birmingham Young Person’s Award

Celebrates an inspiring individual aged 25 years or under, who dedicates their time and talents to makes a real difference in their community through:

  • volunteering
  • supporting neighbours through emotional and/or practical help
  • general acts of kindness and generosity.
  • Showcasing creativity
  • leading local initiatives that support our communities
  • building stronger, more connected communities where everyone feels valued

2. Garden Gem Award

Recognises tenants who create beautiful, welcoming gardens that brighten their neighbourhood and contribute to overall neighbourhood wellbeing.

Provide examples of the following with your nomination:

  • photos from any season in the past 12 months
  • transformation stories are encouraged as they highlight dedication and the positive impact gardens have on our shared environment
  • gardens that were in full bloom last summer or are currently work in progress, your hard work deserves to be showcased

3. Good Neighbour Award

Honours residents who go above and beyond to support others, and create a welcoming and supportive community by:

  • making their street or block feel like home through acts of generosity
  • showing kindness and respect for those around them
  • offering emotional support during difficult times
  • providing practical help (shopping or household tasks)

4. Community Champion Award

For groups who strengthen their community through care, action and community by:

  • leading or supporting community projects that bring people together
  • organising activities or events that improve wellbeing, community spirit or safety in their neighbourhood
  • creating a sense of belonging and community cohesion

5. Staff Appreciation Award

This award is for residents to nominate a member of staff or team who has truly made a difference to their lives and housing experience.

You can show your appreciation for staff who have:

  • put residents first and helping them feel confident, supported, and empowered
  • taken pride in their work, consistently showing kindness, reliability, and professionalism
  • provided outstanding support during difficult or challenging times
  • taken the time to listen, explain, and offer clear guidance
  • gone above and beyond to ensure residents feel supported and valued
