Apply for or renew a Blue Badge

The Blue Badge scheme runs across the UK. It gives people with severe mobility problems, who have difficulty using public transport, additional parking rights. This makes it easier for them to park close to where they need to go.

You can apply for a Blue Badge on the GOV.UK website.

Some websites charge £50 or more to process Blue Badge applications. If you apply through the official government form linked on the button below, you will only be charged £10.

If you are applying under the hidden disability Blue Badge route, you should read our guidance page before you start your application.

If you cannot apply online

If you cannot apply online, you can phone 0121 738 2656.

It usually takes up to 10 working weeks to review your application, complete a mobility assessment (if applicable), and make a decision.

For both new and renewal applications, you must provide medical evidence. A discretionary mobility assessment may also be carried out to confirm eligibility for a Blue Badge.

Renewal of a Blue Badge is not automatic. Renewal applications are assessed in the same way as new applications. You will still need to provide current medical evidence, and a mobility assessment may be needed to confirm continued eligibility.

To ensure your application is processed as quickly and smoothly as possible, you should:

  • apply in good time - for renewals, apply no more than 10 weeks before your current badge expires
  • complete all required forms correctly, including application forms for both new and renewal applications
  • provide accurate and up‑to‑date medical evidence and documents (issued within the last 3 years) for both new and renewal applications

Getting medical evidence

You can request a GP summary free of charge from your GP.

We cannot contact your GP or any other professionals on your behalf. It is your responsibility to get the required evidence.

Any costs associated with getting evidence cannot be reimbursed.

After your Blue Badge has been approved

Once your Blue Badge application has been approved and you have paid any related charges, your badge will be posted to you within 7 to 10 working days.

Blue Badges issued because you receive Personal Independence Payment (PIP) or Disability Living Allowance (DLA) will be valid up to the end date of your award. This means your badge may not always be issued for the full 3‑year period.
