How we support culture in Birmingham
The Cultural Development Service supports culture, arts, heritage and tourism in Birmingham. We do this by nurturing the network of artists, organisations, communities, places and spaces that shape the city’s cultural life.
Our work of the is driven by:
- Birmingham City Council Corporate Plan 2025-2028
- Together on Culture, Birmingham’s Strategic Framework for Culture 2025-2035
We do this through:
- unlocking investment in culture and the wider creative economy
- leading and advising on strategic documents and approaches that impact culture, arts, heritage and tourism
- providing tailored information and guidance
- promoting genuine partnerships and collaborations
- supporting film, TV and screen industries and production across the city
- simplifying access for tourists to core visitor attractions, especially from abroad
- increasing visibility and awareness of culture, arts and heritage at street level
We also work with organisations such as the West Midlands Combined Authority’s (WMCA) and Arts Council England to access opportunities to ensure Birmingham’s arts, cultural and creative sector can thrive.
