What culture is
Culture is about our artistic and creative lives at home, school, or work, as well as places we visit like theatres and galleries. This includes the arts in all forms, such as:
- history and heritage
- leisure activities like watching films or reading
- taking part in festivals and events
- creative things we do like writing poetry, cooking the food we love, or singing along to songs
The Universal Declaration of Human Rights, Article 27 states that everyone has the right to
- freely participate in the cultural life of the community and enjoy the arts
- share in scientific advancement and its benefits
Culture plays a central role in making Birmingham a vibrant city. From the breathtaking music of our City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra to the everyday culture experienced in our neighbourhoods supported by Number 11 Arts, culture matters and is valued for all that it brings to Birmingham.
