Birmingham City Council Statement of Accounts: Financial Year 2016 to 2017
The Council's Draft Statement of Accounts which includes Group Accounts and the Draft Annual Governance Statement, was signed by Mike O’Donnell, Interim Chief Finance Officer on 1 June 2017 and passed to Grant Thornton for external audit on 5 June 2017.
The web version of the Draft Statement of Accounts does not include a signature for security purposes. A signed copy of the Draft Statement of Accounts is available to view at 10 Woodcock Street, Aston, Birmingham B7 4BG.
Notice of Public Rights
NOTICE is given that the Draft Statement of Accounts for the year ended 31 March 2016 has been published on the Council’s website. The Draft Statement of Accounts is unaudited and may be subject to change.
NOTICE is hereby given under Regulation 15(2)(b) of The Accounts and Audit Regulations 2015 that from 5 June 2017 to 14 July 2017 between 9.00 a.m. and 4.30p.m. on weekdays, any persons interested may inspect and make copies of the signed Draft Statement of Accounts and accounting records of the Council for the year ended 31st March 2017 including all books, deeds, contracts, bills, vouchers and receipts relating to those records except as provided for in Section 26(4) to 26(6) of the Local Audit and Accountability Act 2014 in relation to commercially confidential and personal information.
In order to ensure the efficient organisation of this process and since it is impractical to deposit all such records in one place, could interested persons contact Annette Rowe on 0121 303 3313 or by email to firstname.lastname@example.org to make arrangements for inspection at 10 Woodcock Street, Aston, Birmingham B7 4BG.
NOTICE is given that from 5 June to 14 July 2017, a local government elector for any area to which the accounts relate, or their representative, may question the auditor about the accounts, as set out in Section 26 of the Local Audit and Accountability Act 2014.
NOTICE is given that from 5 June to 14 July 2017 any such elector may make objections to the auditor, under Section 27 of the Local Audit and Accountability Act 2014, relating to any matter where the auditor could take action under:
- Section 28 of the Local Audit and Accountability Act 2014, namely, to apply to the court for a declaration that an item in the accounts is contrary to law, and/or
- Section 24 and paragraph 1 of Schedule 7 of the Local Audit and Accountability Act 2014, namely, to make a report in the public interest.
No objection may be made unless the auditor has previously received written notice of the proposed objection, specifying the facts on which the objector relies and the grounds on which the objection is being made.
