Report a missed bin collection

Potential disruption due to industrial action

There is currently industrial action by Unite the Union. We expect some disruption but will try to minimise this.

Put your household waste (grey lid) bin out on your normal collection day. If it is not collected, leave it out and we will collect it as soon as we can. Recycling collections are suspended every day during industrial action so do not put your recycling bin (blue lid) out for collection.

How to report a missed collection

If we have missed a collection, you can check whether we already know. If we do not, you may be able to report it to us.

As we make changes to waste services you might be asked to log in to your BRUM account - or create an account - to check if we know your collection has been missed or make a report. Creating an account is free.

Once you have logged in or created an account, add your address to access additional waste services.

When to report a missed collection

You can report a missed collection of general waste after 1:30pm on the day it was due to be collected.

You cannot report a missed collection if:

  • we already know we have not completed collection on your round - this could be because of issues such as road closures or service disruption
  • your bin has been marked as contaminated - this means the bin contained items not allowed in that type of collection or was recycling which had not been separated or was not clean
  • your bin was not out for collection or you put it out after 6:00am on collection day and missed us

We may use CCTV in our vehicles to verify whether a bin was out for collection, or if there were other reasons for missing the collection for your street or property.

What to do with your waste if your collection has been missed

If we know we have missed your collection, or you have made a report to us and we can rearrange collection we will do so within 2 working days. Leave your bins out.

If we have not collected within 2 working days take your bins back on to your property and leave them out at the next collection day of that type. If you have:

  • too much waste - we will collect a reasonable amount of general waste at your next collection and we will always collect cardboard left neatly at the side of your recycling bin
  • contaminated waste - remove the incorrect waste, or separate and clean recycling before your next collection

You can also take waste to a household recycling centre.
