Ranger events and activities bookings


We organise events and activities throughout the year in Birmingham's parks and open spaces.

Our seasonal programme includes outdoor fun events for families, craft activities, guided walks, practical conservation days and training courses. You can find details in What’s On and search for events by date, location or type and find further information.

Our premier parks, country parks and nature reserves are the main venues for events and activities.

Events are popular and booking is essential for most of them. The easiest way to book is online, either using the button above or the link from the individual event information pages. If you already have an online account you will be taken to your account login page. You must login to your account if you want to be able to track or amend your bookings. If you do not have an online account you can make a still make a booking as a guest but you will be taken straight to our Events Booking system.

To amend your booking login to My Account and select My Sports Bookings. Please allow at least 30 minutes after making a booking for the transaction to appear in My Sports Bookings.

Some events may have a small charge which is payable online by debit/credit card at the time of booking.

All bookings are made subject to the terms and conditions below which are also on display in the Ranger Visitor Centres.

Essential Information
  • The terms and conditions for our free and paid events are similar unless specified.

    Booking restrictions: Customers should ensure that they have read and understood any restrictions on event participation such as age, membership or qualifications before booking. Any event restrictions will be clearly stated in the event details in What’s On but please contact us if you need further clarification before making a booking. Where restrictions apply you should bring proof that you meet the requirements. The parties agree that, unless stated otherwise, the event is deemed to be a leisure event for the purposes of the Consumer Protection (Distance Selling) Regulations 2000

    Paid Events: Payments must be made at the time of booking. Confirmation of payment will be sent by e-mail.

    Tickets:No tickets will be provided for events. You will be required to provide the booking reference when attending events. Evidence of booking will be available in the printable confirmation screen on the website. Customers booking via the contact centre should make a note of the booking reference and take this with them when they attend the event.

    Cancellations: Cancellations can be made online if you booked through the contact centre of if you registered for the event whilst logged in to your online account. If you were not logged in when you booked or if you do not have an online account, you will need to go to a visitor centre to make a cancellation.

    Refunds: Refunds are not available for cancellations but customers can make an alternative booking at time of cancellation subject to availability. No refund is given where the new booking is of a lesser value.

    If a suitable alternative is not available to book and customers wish to request a refund on this basis, this can be done using the Service Specific Enquiry form. The refund request will be investigated and a decision will be made on an individual basis.

    Cancellation by the organiser: As with all events, we can not predict the weather and on the odd occasion we may have no option but to cancel. This is a rare occurrence but should it be necessary then we will endeavour to contact participants. If we cancel an event, customers will be offered an alternative booking wherever possible or failing that customers may request a refund. We reserve the right to make reasonable amendments to the location, timing and content of the event to account for bad weather.

  • We endeavour to make our events as accessible as possible but naturally some sites are easier to access than others. Due to the terrain covered by some activities, especially walks, visitors may require further information about the route. Please contact us beforehand on 0121 464 8728 or use the Service Specific Enquiry form should you have any particular needs and we will do our best to provide specific information to enable you to assess the suitability for yourself, however we will make reasonable adjustments if possible.

    It may be possible to arrange a Land Rover for groups who may otherwise find exploring the site difficult. You may wish to arrange a specific event for a groups using the Wildlife Site Request form.

    All sites have portable induction loops. Please see our site pages for further information on visitor facilities.

  • Bookings can normally be made 60 days in advance of the event. Some events may also have a closing date for bookings – see the specific event details via the What's On page for information.

  • Please make note of the time of your chosen event and try to be there a few minutes early. If you have any problems with finding out where to go, please see the What's On page for full address details of the event you are interested in or call us on 0121 464 8728.

    Activities starting at a Ranger Service base will normally have car parking and accessible toilets. Not all activities start or are held at Ranger Service bases and these sites may not have these facilities available. Please refer to the What’s On event information listing and the site information.

  • For your own comfort please wear clothes suitable to the event. We would suggest wearing sturdy shoes and possibly warm clothes and waterproofs dependent upon the season.

  • We welcome children at all our events unless otherwise stated, but children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult.

    Events are occasionally organised for unaccompanied children and booking of these events will be subject to additional terms and conditions which will be provided on the What’s On event information page.

Frequently Asked Questions
    • We occasionally do run events that are for women only and led by female rangers, please see the events.birmingham.gov.uk page for more details. Customers can request a specific event for women only – please use the Wildlife Site Request.

    • The Ranger events are aimed at everyone to take part. If we know the type of activity the group would like, please make a your request Wildlife Sites Request page.

    • Unfortunately our Terms and Conditions state that we are unable to offer a refund for bookings that are cancelled. However if you made your original booking through your One Account and cancel online or if you cancel by phone then you will be able to book an alternative event or activity subject to availability.

      Alternatively you can amend your booking in person at any of the Visitor Centres.

    • Any tools and safety equipment that will be needed will be provided.

      For you own comfort please wear clothing suitable to the activity. We suggest wearing sturdy shoes and long sleeved shirt and trousers, and possibly warm clothes and waterproofs dependent upon the season.

    • You need approval to run any event or activity in a public park. Customers can apply for permission using the Use of Parks request.

    • No, dogs should not be brought to events unless specified otherwise in the event details.
