The Business Innovation Programme (BIP) fund now operates on a competition basis and we are delighted to announce that BIP Round 6 is now open and the deadline for submission of applications is Friday 2nd January 2015. Funding rounds usually operate on a rolling monthly basis, however funds are increasingly becoming committed, and therefore we strongly recommend that you submit your application sooner rather than later to avoid missing out on this funding opportunity.

Your completed application form, along with supporting documentation must be submitted before the closing date of 2nd January 2015 to qualify for consideration.

Applications will be assessed against the Financial Assistance Grant Application Criteria provided on the BIP webpage and will be based upon the information provided.

Applications received after the closing date will not be taken into account in the Round 6 assessment process, but may instead. be carried over into the next funding round, should sufficient funds still be available.

What is the Business Innovation Programme?

BIP is an £8.7 million package of support, part funded by European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).

BIP aims to stimulate innovation within SMEs to encourage and enable existing businesses to invest for the future, to lever private sector investment, create new and safeguard existing jobs across the West Midlands.

The programme offers grant based financial assistance to support existing SMEs which have been trading for 6 months or more and are ready to undertake investment in innovative production processes. This must lead to new products, which are “close to market”.

Grants of £10k up to £30k are available, which must be match funded by the SME.

Applicants are encouraged to incorporate a combination of one or more of the following:-

  • Capital Expenditure
  • New Product Development
  • New Marketing Development
  • Business Innovation Mentoring

Each application will be required to demonstrate viability, need, job creation, sustainability and new investment being linked directly to the creation of new jobs and safeguarding of existing jobs.

The leaflet and slideshow explains more about the programme.

The programme will run until June 2015.

Find out if your business is eligible for support by looking at the criteria in the document below, including a map of the eligibility area.

Application Process

A judging panel will assess all eligible applications received in Round 6 and this process will take place in January 2015, following the closure of the funding round. We aim to inform applicants of a decision within 1 month of the competition round closing date.
