Parenthood courses

If you are a parent, carer, or grandparent of a child under 19 years old, you can access our free online parent courses. The access code is "COMMUNITY".

These free courses help and support parents and carers, giving them confidence and skills to support their children’s emotional health and wellbeing.

Understanding pregnancy, labour, birth, and your baby

This course is for everyone who will be part of your baby's life and has the same content as an antenatal group.

It explains how and why you are important to this baby, whether you are the mother, father, partner, grandparent or birth partner.

The content of this course was developed by registered midwives working with clinical psychologists and health visitors in the Solihull Approach team.

Each module takes around 20 minutes to complete and includes interactive activities, quizzes, and video clips. There is also an optional voiceover.

This website has a range of translations available for many different nationalities.

Understanding your baby

In Our Place is your digital space for emotional health and wellbeing resources to support your parenting journey. A range of online courses that can be followed in your own time and completely privately have been developed by clinical psychologists and health professionals to bring together practical information with mental health support.

Courses include:

Antenatal: preparing to give birth, bonding with your new baby, and thinking about your emotional health. With a tailored course offer for women couples and multiple community language translations.

Postnatal: understanding your baby’s physical and emotional development with information on sleeping, feeding, crying and playing. With specialist courses for preterm and sick babies as well as multiple community language translations.

Understanding your child: support to understand early brain development and managing behaviour with a focus on developing the important relationships in your child’s life to help them thrive. With specialist courses to support parents of children with additional needs as well as multiple language translations.

Your emotional health: adult emotional health courses to support your wellbeing and managing conflict in relationships as well as a specialist course for understanding your own trauma and how to process effectively.

Understanding your baby

This course is for everyone around a new baby. It supports you and your baby from birth to 12 months old.

This course gives you information about your baby's brain, physical, and emotional development. It shows how important your relationship with the baby is for their development.

The content of this course also looks at your baby's:

  • sleeping
  • feeding
  • crying
  • playing
  • childcare options

Understanding your child

This course is for all parents, grandparents, and carers of children who are under 19 years old.

This course is a journey through knowledge. It builds up a way of looking at things that will be helpful in most situations.

Other help

Approachable Parenting

Approachable Parenting CIC provides culturally appropriate parenting programmes and services primarily for Muslim families, focusing on understanding culture and beliefs to positively impact family structure. They offer strategies and support to empower parents in bonding, skill development and develop family characteristics with their children from pregnancy to age 18.

Approachable Parenting is currently offering Pregnancy to 3 years parenting program focusing on antenatal and postnatal care, promoting brain development and milestone achievement. It emphasises group support, strengthening parenting skills, relationships, and family bonds. Developed by clinical psychologists, it incorporates psychological, coaching techniques, and faith references. Trainers have diverse language skills and encourage practicing skills at home with feedback opportunities to reach goals.

The content includes:

  • understanding the effects of pregnancy
  • importance of bonding with the baby or child during pregnancy and after birth
  • nurturing secure attachment and understanding how to attune to your baby’s needs
  • child’s different stages of development
  • play and thankfulness, and the importance of family
  • dealing with difficult behaviour
  • influences on parenting and strengthening couple relationships
