HRC Frequently asked questions

Why have bookings been introduced?

The booking system was first introduced to address the long queues that were forming during the first COVID-19 lockdown.

To give people as much flexibility as possible when planning a trip to a HRC, we are now operating a same day booking system.

This will enable residents to book available slots from a minimum of just two hours ahead of a visit, on the same day, up to a maximum of three days in advance.

Who can make a booking?

Only Birmingham residents can make a booking and proof of address may be required when attending HRCs. See below for trade waste arrangements.

How often can I make a booking?

Residents can make two bookings at a time, this could be on the same day or the same week. Until those two bookings have taken place, a further booking cannot be made.

Example:

  • You have made a booking for 2pm today (Wednesday) and a second booking for 9am tomorrow (Thursday)
  • You will not be able to make a further booking until the Thursday booking has cleared the system (this is usually the following day)
  • Once the booking has cleared the system, an additional booking can be made that same week from Friday onwards
  • It may be that a booking is made on Friday to attend on the same day (subject to availability), which would be permissible

What if I do not have internet access?

If you are unable to make a booking because you do not have access to the internet you can ask someone else to fill in the form on your behalf.

Can I bring my household waste in a van or trailer?

Yes – for residents, vans and trailers need to be booked using the online booking system.

If residents wish to bring a small trailer (6 foot by 4 foot and smaller), you can book a slot using the online booking system for cars.

If residents wish to bring a van or large trailer (larger than 6 foot by 4 foot), you will need to book a slot using the online booking system for vans.

If you are a business disposing of trade waste you need to book by phoning the Van Booking Centre on 0203 567 3915.

Charges will apply to businesses disposing of trade waste.
