Role of the Designated Person

There should be a member of staff, who has the responsibility of promoting the educational achievement of PLAC pupils. If it is not the schools existing designated teacher for children in care, we advise that this designated teacher provides training, advice and support, to another member of staff, to facilitate this role professionally.

Additional support is offered, by BVS, to meet the needs of looked after and previously looked after children who are at risk of under achieving, through our PLAC Advisor.

The curriculum should be sufficiently flexible to increase accessibility for vulnerable pupils.

The member(s) of staff should annually complete a School Evaluation Framework (SEF) on the strategic work the school undertakes, to support looked after and previously looked after children.

Refer to the possible SEF template.

The designated person should have appropriate training for this role.

See Birmingham Virtual School's training offer.
