Market position statements
We have a duty to develop vibrant and sustainable care markets that deliver outcomes for citizens aligned to their individual needs and goals, and our strategic approach and priorities.
To support this we have developed a set of market position statements (MPS). These MPS are designed to give a range of information that care provider organisations can use to make effective business planning decisions.
These market position statements are for adult social care providers that currently deliver or are considering delivering services in Birmingham.
They integrate our assessments of market sustainability and market shaping plans and are aligned with our current commissioning strategies
The documents aim to:
- set out our assessments of local markets including current and future demand and supply, quality, financial, workforce and service delivery model factors
- identify gaps in provision and what needs to be developed in the future
- provide suppliers with an evidence base, commissioning intentions and key messages in order that they can more effectively plan business development
- support the council’s further shaping of care markets so that they are vibrant, sustainable, of high quality, and offer choice to citizens
We have prioritised the development of MPS covering the care quality comission (CQC) regulated care market. We recognise there are other care and support market segments, and we intend to develop similar MPS documents for those in the future.
The MPSs will be regularly reviewed with our provider markets through our provider forums, and with key stakeholders and partners. It is intended that future versions of the MPSs will incorporate the commissioning intentions of Birmingham and Solihull Integrated Care Board to deliver a system-wide position.
