Mental health and wellbeing

Our mental health and wellbeing strategy is a commitment to building a community where everyone has the support and resources to stay mentally healthy and cope with life’s challenges.

The strand is split into four priority areas:

Area What we will do

Mentally healthy people

Work with partners to build individual resilience and behaviours to support good mental health and wellbeing throughout the life course.

Mentally healthy families

Work to strengthen family bonds, empower families to support each other, and provide targeted support to those in need, ensuring that every family has the resources to thrive together.

Mentally healthy communities

Work with communities to ensure they are actively involved in shaping the services we provide, create supportive and safe spaces, and make mental health and wellbeing resources easier to find and access for everyone.

Mentally healthy places

Work with partners to create greener, safer, and more accessible physical environments and provide support for mental health and wellbeing in workplaces and educational settings.

More information on the priorities can be found in our strategy:

How do we know we are making a difference?

Mental Health and Wellbeing Framework for Action

Our Mental Health and Wellbeing Framework for Action will capture activity within Birmingham against our Mental Health and Wellbeing priorities.

The Framework for Action will be published after the strategy has undergone the public consultation.

If you area interested in being involved in strategy implementation, email mentalwellbeing@birmingham.gov.uk.

Case studies

We want to hear your stories!

Sent us case studies of work that improves mental health and wellbeing for us to share.

If you have any case studies of work that improves mental health and wellbeing, email them to us at mentalwellbeing@birmingham.gov.uk.

Mental health campaigns

Mental health and wellbeing and suicide prevention and awareness campaigns are important to us.

They raise awareness of these topics, break down stigma and promote resources and services. They remind us that nobody should face mental health struggles and be in crisis alone.

In the next few years, we will:

  • launch campaigns to raise the awareness of mental health and wellbeing
  • promote resources for mental health and wellbeing topics
  • share updates related to mental health campaigns in our Public Health newsletter
  • advocate for mental health in all policies and planning.

If you feel that a specific mental health topic should be delivered, or mental health awareness should be raised among a specific community, email mentalwellbeing@birmingham.gov.uk. We would love to hear your ideas!
