Key programmes of work

There are multiple streams of work to support the aims and vision of the Forum. The key ones are:

  • Development of a Citywide Physical Activity Action Plan to set the direction and vision more explicitly with the partners, and with due consideration to citizen voices and views.
  • Implement an Active Mobility Intervention, with support from Bloomberg Philanthropies to promote a population-level shift in knowledge, attitudes and behaviours around cycling, walking and active travel.
  • Support the implementation of the Birmingham Transport Plan, specifically reducing car journeys under one mile, with a focus on journeys to school, work and other local amenities.
  • Work with partners to help shape and contribute to the Commonwealth Games Physical Activity Legacy.
  • Manage the Leisure Service’s Be Active contract and work with referring partners to improve access to the service.
  • Develop, trial and implement a Social Prescribing model which aims to raise awareness of the benefits of, and increase uptake of walking and cycling by working collaboratively with key partners, including the community and patients.
