Your housing options

If you have explored all options to remain in your current accommodation then you will need to consider your housing options.

Birmingham has an acute shortage of housing across all sizes and tenure types. Those looking to find suitable affordable accommodation need to be realistic about the options available to them.

More housing options

Housing Associations - are independent, non-profit-making organisations, which provide homes for people to rent, buy or both.

Extra Care - Extra care housing offers independent living with professional staff in addition to home care staff on site, an emergency alarm system and community facilities such as communal lounges, hairdressing, laundry and a library service.

Sheltered Housing - Sheltered Housing schemes are located across the city and come in a variety of accommodation types such as bungalows, low and high rise flats.

More housing options

Adapted Accommodation - If you require an adapted property and are not in a position to own your own home or able to find one in the private rented sector then you may be able to secure suitable accommodation from either the City Council or a Housing Association.

Boat, caravan or mobile home - Living on a boat, caravan or mobile home can provide cheap alternative to fixed accommodation but before pursuing this option you need to consider all aspects of living in this type of accommodation.

Help to buy a home - If you have regular income and are interested in owning a home but do not have the money for a deposit there are schemes that may be able to help. The schemes include an Equity Loan, Shared Ownership and Help to Buy ISAs.
