Household Support Fund - application-based support
The Household Support Fund (HSF) is money from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP). It is given to the council to help households in financial need.
Support is available for essentials such as:
- food
- energy
- water
- essential goods and supplies
Different types of help are offered to meet a wide range of household needs.

Update – 11 March 2026
The Hardship Grant Community Fund scheme is paused for new enquiries and applications.
If you submitted an enquiry since the current scheme opened on 23 June 2025 and have received an email confirming it has been approved, you have been added to our waiting list. We will contact you in the next 3 to 4 weeks to complete your full application.
You should ensure that:
- your phone accepts calls from withheld or private numbers
- your voicemail is on so that we can leave a message if you miss our phone call
Eligibility checks
Completing the enquiry form does not mean that you are automatically entitled to receive a grant payment. Your eligibility will be checked during the application process. We may ask you to provide documents to verify the details you put in your application.
