How good is my local care home or home support?

How good is my local care home or home support?

We’ve developed quality ratings to help you to understand the quality of service provided by your local care home (including nursing homes) or home support provider. The ratings look at the following factors:

  • Giving people a good quality of life.
  • Helping people to be as independent as possible.
  • Involving people in the way care their care is provided.
  • Keeping people safe.

We update the ratings monthly, using information collected from a wide range of sources, including:

  • The care providers themselves
  • The Care Quality Commission (CQC)
  • Performance data held by Birmingham City Council
  • Customer feedback from people using the services (provided by Healthwatch Birmingham).

Quality care ratings

The list below explains our ratings:

  • Rating 80 - 100 = good: This service is demonstrating a good level of quality with standards consistently met.
  • Rating 60 - 70 = satisfactory: This service meets minimum Council expectations and demonstrates some elements of good quality. The service would be expected to work towards improving areas of weaker quality.
  • Rating 1 - 60 = poor: This service is below Council expectations and urgent improvement action is required by the care provider. A sustained ‘Poor’ rating (over a 6 month period) may lead to the Council no longer purchasing these services.
  • Rating 0 or below (minus score): This service has failed to submit the required self-assessment information to the Council (zero score) and is also non-compliant with the City Council's contract conditions, and/or has a CQC quality rating of either 'Requiring Improvement' or 'Inadequate' (minus score).
