Lighting up the library for Remembrance Sunday 2025
Sunday 9 November 2025

After sunset on Sunday, 9 November, the Library of Birmingham will be lit up in red, white, and blue to mark Remembrance Sunday 2025.
Remembrance Sunday is a national opportunity in the UK to remember the service and sacrifice of all those who have defended our freedoms and protected our way of life.
We remember the Armed Forces, and their families, from Britain and the Commonwealth, the vital role played by the emergency services and those who have lost their lives as a result of conflict or terrorism.
The National Service of Remembrance, held at The Cenotaph in Whitehall on Remembrance Sunday, provides the nation with a physical reminder of all those who have served and sacrificed, with British and Commonwealth soldiers, sailors, airmen and women represented, together with members of the emergency services and civilians, ensuring that no one is forgotten.
Members of the Royal Family pay tribute alongside Members of the Cabinet, Opposition Party leaders, and former Prime Ministers. Representatives of the Armed Forces, Fishing Fleets and Merchant Air and Navy will be there, as well as faith communities and High Commissioners of Commonwealth countries.
Around the country, towns, villages and organisations will also mark an Act of Remembrance, which is brief and non-religious, to remember all those who have died in conflict.
The Royal British Legion is the UK’s premier armed forces charity, and its website contains lots of information about Remembrance.
