The Planning Portal is a national website that provides advice on various aspects of the planning porcess. You can use the Planning Portal to submit online applications to Birmingham City Council and to access forms to download in hard copy. The online application process may be easier to use than a paper form as it helps you choose the corect form and helps prevent you from submitting an invalid application.
Application forms can be completed, plans, drawings and supporting documents can be attached and the fee can also be paid using debit or credit card online.
The Planning Portal also provides an Ordnance Survey service where maps can be purchased as part of the application submission process. You can contact the Planning Portal for help and assistance with applying online. Building Work: Will I need anything else?
Don't forget you may need Building Regulations approval or other types of permission. You can find out if you need anything else here. Ordnance Survey Plan
You will require Ordnance Survey Plans and the Local Authority does not provide this service. For a list of local suppliers see our information page for details. Glossary of Terms
You may find it useful to view our Glossary of terms. National Validation Criteria
The government advocates the use of validation criteria as a method of providing certainty regarding the type and number of forms, statements and documents that will be required to accompany applications made to planning authorities.
Where an application is not accompanied by information required by the planning authority, applicants should provide written justification with the application as to why it is not appropriate in the particular circumstances.
The below is what central government states all planning applications are required
to have across the country to be a valid application. For details of what is required
select the criteria and it will take you to a description of the national requirements.
Works to Tree applications are dealt with separately under the Local Validation
list.
