Friends of Sutton Park

The Friends of Sutton Park Association (FOSPA) protects, conserves and promotes Sutton Park.

FOSPSA funds voluntary conservation projects in the park and we meet fortnightly to work on a variety of practical conservation projects.

Tasks include:

  • the ancient woodland art of coppicing
  • creating boardwalks to give access to the wetlands
  • bird ringing
  • building specially designed habitats for the park's dragonfly population
  • building silt traps to protect the park's pools

The Association works closely with the Sutton Park Ranger Service, and their conservation projects are always in keeping with English Nature’s management plans for the park.

FOSPA is a member of the Sutton Park Advisory Committee, which meets regularly to oversee the management and use of the park. The committee links the park’s various community and conservation groups and the Council who manage the park.

FOSPA is affiliated to the British Trust for Conservation Volunteers.

Volunteering and events

New volunteers are always welcome to join the Association on one of their practical conservation projects. Training and support will be given if needed. You don’t have to be a member of FOSPA to volunteer.

FOSPA also organise a range of events including free guided walks in Sutton Park. Social events are open to non-members.
