As a Shared Lives carer, you can share your home and family life with a young person or adult who needs support to live an enjoyable and fulfilling life.
Flexible support options
Flexible support options allow you to make a meaningful impact while choosing what works best for you.
You can:
• offer support for one or two days a week or provide overnight stays to give family carers a much-needed break
• welcome someone into your home for a few weeks, months, or even years, providing stability and care
Daily assistance
Shared Lives carers could give a helping hand to someone getting dressed, getting to doctors' appointments, making friends, cooking together or voting for favourite dancers on Strictly.
Who you can support
People visiting or moving in with Shared Lives carers may have been in foster care, have learning or physical disabilities, may be an older person with a frailty or dementia, or have mental ill health.

You do not need any qualifications. We will support you every step of the way. We will offer Shared Lives carers training, support and guidance about how to support people in different situations.
You wiill have a dedicated scheme worker to talk through anything you are not sure about and celebrate your successes.
Shared Lives for Birmingham and Solihull
Shared Lives Birmingham manages the Shared Lives scheme within Birmingham and Solihull, on behalf of Solihull Council. We will respond to enquiries, provide training, and manage the approval process as well as ongoing support for approved Shared Lives Solihull carers.
