We have different opening hours at each library. You can check the opening hours on each library page.
Spring Hill library
Spring Hill library was temporarily closed in December 2022 for health and safety issues. In February 2025 Cabinet agreed to a new model for the delivery of community libraries, which approved the permanent closure of the library.
The building was declared surplus to the requirements of the council by the Cabinet Committee Property and approved for disposal.
The property is currently being marketed on behalf of the council by Lambert Smith Hampton for disposal as a long lease. Proposals for ongoing community use are welcome.
We are aware that the property has a Grade II* listing status; all enquiries should be directed to the Planning Department.
Temporary library closures

Acocks Green library
Acocks Green library is currently closed due to unexpected health and safety issues.
Balsall Heath library
Balsall Heath library is closed for major building and remodelling works, including adding a mezzanine floor.
Progress on opening the library will be published here as soon as possible.
The nearest libraries to Balsall Heath library are Kings Heath library and Sparkhill library.
Erdington library
Erdington library is closed until further notice due to unforeseen circumstances.
Frankley library
Frankley library will be closed from Wednesday 17 December until Wednesday 7 January.
Kingstanding library
There are temporary changes to Saturday opening hours.
The library will be open from 9:00am to 1:00pm and 2:00pm to 5:00pm on the following Saturdays:
- 3 January 2026
- 17 January 2026
On Tuesdays and Fridays, normal opening hours will apply.
Library of Birmingham
The Library of Birmingham will be closing at 5:00pm on Wednesday 31 December 2025.
Selly Oak Touch Base
Selly Oak Touch Base will be closed from Wednesday 24 December 2025 to Monday 5 January 2026.
Weoley Castle library
Weoley Castle library wil be closed on Saturday 3 January 2026 due to staffing shortages.

All libraries are closed on bank holidays.
