Birmingham Wellbeing service
The Birmingham WBS is managed and delivered by the Neighbourhoods Team within the council.
The aim of the service is to ensure communities have access to leisure facilities, and support to engage in an active and healthy lifestyle, thus improving their social, physical, and mental wellbeing. The WBS consist of two distinct services, known as the Be Active and Be Active Plus.
Be Active (BA)
A leisure centre-based service provision, offering the residents of Birmingham access to free physical activities such as swimming, gym-based exercise, and fitness classes at specified times during the week. Be Active is delivered across 19 leisure centres across Birmingham.
Be Active Plus (BAP)
A 12 week GP exercise referral and support scheme for inactive people with chronic and long-term medical conditions.
Work is being done to expand the BAP into an integrated holistic model in which BAP advisors will support service users across a wide range of behaviours affecting their health such as physical activity, weight management and smoking.
