How we can help you

If you're thinking about quitting smoking, you don’t have to do it alone.

Birmingham’s Stop Smoking Service is here to support you every step of the way.

Support available

We offer a proven programme to help you manage cravings and make quitting easier. This can include:

  • expert behavioural support
  • nicotine replacement therapy (NRT)
  • vapes or electronic cigarettes to help manage cravings and make quitting easier

You will get personalised support that fits your lifestyle and practical strategies to stay smokefree.

You can choose from three types of support:

  • one-to-one sessions with a trained stop smoking adviser, delivered face-to-face
  • telephone support - a trained stop smoking adviser will check in with you regularly and help you stay on track
  • drop-in sessions at selected locations, with no appointment needed

Nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) and vapes

We offer nicotine replacement therapy to manage cravings and other withdrawal symptoms you might have when you first quit.

NRT works by giving your body lower amounts of nicotine - without the additional harmful chemicals found in cigarettes.

It is safe, effective, and available in different forms such as:

  • patches
  • gums
  • lozenges
  • sprays
  • inhalers

One of our advisers will assess which products are right for you.

You will receive a voucher, which you can redeem at participating pharmacies across Birmingham. This does not include pharmacies offering the stop smoking service directly.

More information about quitting smoking using NRTs is available on the NHS's BetterHealth website.

They also have information on quitting with nicotine-free medicines.
