Healthy Start vitamins

Healthy Start vitamins contain vitamins A, C and D for children aged from birth to 4 years, and folic acid, vitamins C and D for pregnant and breastfeeding women.

Who can get free Healthy Start vitamins

Healthy Start vitamins are free for:

  • All women who are pregnant and up to their baby’s 4th birthday
  • All women who are breastfeeding
  • All children from 4 weeks old until their 4th birthday

Vitamin drops can be issued every 8 weeks.

Universal vitamin offer in Birmingham

Birmingham provides a universal Healthy Start vitamin offer. This means vitamins are available to:

  • All pregnant women from 10 weeks onwards
  • All breastfeeding women until their child’s first birthday
  • All children up to their 4th birthday

Note: children who drink 500ml or more of formula milk a day do not need Healthy Start vitamins.

Where to collect your vitamins:

  • If you are pregnant, collect Healthy start vitamins at your first antenatal appointment from your midwife.
  • If you are a parent with children under 4, your first bottle will usually be given by your Health Visitor at your first appointment

Remaining bottles can be collected from your local Healthy Start distribution site.
