Healthy Start vitamins

Healthy Start vitamins contain:

  • vitamins A, C and D for children aged from birth to 4 years
  • folic acid, vitamins C and D for pregnant and breastfeeding people

Who can get free Healthy Start vitamins

Birmingham offers a universal Healthy Start vitamin scheme.

Vitamins are available to:

  • pregnant people from 10 weeks onwards
  • people who are breastfeeding until their child’s 1st birthday
  • children up to their 4th birthday

Children who drink 500ml or more of formula milk each day do not need Healthy Start Vitamins because formula already contains added vitamins.

Where to collect your vitamins

You can collect Healthy Start vitamins:

  • if you are pregnant, from your midwife at your first antenatal appointment
  • if you have children under 4 years, from your Health Visitor at your first appointment

Remaining bottles can be collected from your local Healthy Start distribution site.

Use our postcode checker to find your nearest distribution site.

Nurseries shown in the directory can only provide Healthy Start vitamins to families with a child registered at that nursery.
