Bristol Road Selly Oak enhancement scheme

The Bristol Road Selly Oak enhancement scheme aims to improve cycling provision introduced in 2020 through the Emergency Active Travel Fund (EATF) programme.

The scheme includes:

  • a high-quality, two-way segregated cycle lane through Selly Oak local centre, from Chapel Lane to Grange Road
  • a reduction from 4 lanes to 2 lanes
  • environmental improvements
  • changes to parking, including formalising on-street parking with kerb build-outs to improve compliance

Consultation and next steps

We consulted the public on the scheme in summer 2022.

You can view the initial proposals and plans on the Birmingham Be Heard website.

We consulted on the proposed Traffic Regulation Orders (TROs), which are needed to make changes to the road layout, in March 2026.

The scheme is now in the final stages of detailed design.

We will confirm construction dates once final approvals are in place.
