The programme

Our creative public health programme the city’s opportunity to explore where we can find mechanisms that support the scaling up of infrastructure that enables us to explore the challenges, opportunities, and effects of implementing effective policy in this landscape. The benefits of taking this approach will enable us to connect people, groups, communities, and services to meet the practical, social, and emotional needs that affect their health and wellbeing whilst supporting existing community groups to be accessible and sustainable to help people start working collaboratively with all local partners across the arts, cultural, heritage and health sectors to reduce health inequalities.

Our aim is that we want health policies to integrate the benefits of creative health which includes arts, culture, and heritage and for arts, culture and heritage organisations and bodies to invest more in the exploration of health outcomes and addressing health inequalities.

We will take and advocate for a ‘public health approach’ towards our work within the creative health programme. This means we will work in cooperation and collaboration across a range of partners within the arts, cultural and heritage sectors.

We will establish four key steps into our public health approach in the creative health programme:

Surveillance

Identify or define the problem. Typically, this step includes data gathering to find out:

  • who
  • what
  • why
  • where
  • when

Identify

Identify any possible causes and look for evidence of factors that put populations at risk. Such as poor health and any factors that may prevent this from happening.

Develop

Develop and evaluate interventions. Use the data to design, implement and evaluate interventions to advocate for creative public health.

Scale it up

If evaluation shows that the intervention works, then it should be scaled up across the city. This is while continuing to evaluate how well it continues to deliver and its cost-effectiveness.
