Bisexual community health profile
Overview
The bisexual community health profile has identified and summarised the national and local evidence relating to the health, lifestyle behaviours and wider determinants of health that affect the bisexual community.
Although the focus of this report was health inequalities among the bisexual community in Birmingham, the limited available information on health inequalities has resulted in data being used from the UK, and internationally, where available.
Community definition
‘Bisexual’ or ‘bi’ are umbrella terms used to describe a romantic and/or sexual orientation towards more than one gender.
Bisexuality is a term which may be used by people from a variety of gender identities.
Population size
Population size estimates have been taken from the 2021 census for England and Wales.
- England and Wales: 624,000 people identified as bisexual (1.3% of the total population)
- Birmingham: 11,258 people identified as bisexual (1.3% of the total population)
