Why Volunteer?

People volunteer for a variety of reasons:

  • they may be passionate about a particular cause or charity and wish to offer their services.
  • they may wish to acquire new skills and experience to add to their portfolio to assist them in their search for paid employment.
  • they may wish to meet other like minded people.

Some voluntary positions require specialist skills e.g. specific IT knowledge or bookkeeping, but many require no previous experience and training will be provided. However, enthusiasm is essential!

Remember, it is not just work based skills and knowledge that can be gained but communication and interpersonal skills. It can also boost your confidence!

Volunteering can be a good way to gain an insight in to a different type of career. It can be especially beneficial to school leavers or those who have not worked for a while because it provides them with valuable experience and skills that they may not otherwise have had the opportunity to acquire.

Volunteering can be very rewarding and provide you with a real sense of worth!
