Book cover of Lady Chatterley's lover

Lady Chatterley’s Lover - DH Lawrence

One of the most famous banned books in the UK.

The sexually explicit novel was published in Italy in 1928 and in Paris the following year. It was banned in the UK after its publishers, Penguin, were brought to trial under the Obscene Publications Act. After a dramatic and much-publicised trial, Penguin won the right to publish the book in its entirety in November 1960. Bookshops all over England sold all 200,000 copies on the first day of publication.
