Overview

The Music Library offers an impressive range of specialist collections, with expert librarians available to help you find what you need. You can borrow from a large and varied music collection on CD, music and film DVDs, together with fiction and non-fiction Audiobooks.

Choose from a vast array of printed music scores to help you learn an instrument, play, sing, or study. Playing your first note or singing like a pro, we have the music you’ll need.

If you represent a Local choir, orchestra, band or school, you can obtain music from our extensive collection of performance sets (charges apply).

Music spans a huge range of topics. We have Books on all popular and classical music subjects to help you with everything from children's homework to music education and PhD research. We also have a wide-ranging selection of Artist and Composer biographies as well as Folk and World collections.

Looking for music topics to explore in more depth? We have a number of research collections to kindle your interest. They’re suitable for undergraduate or postgraduate work, or maybe following a personal passion. Read more about our research collections.

We have a wide range of music magazines for you to browse and read in the Music Library including back issues that you can request from staff.

Whether you wish to play on your own or within a small group, you can hire one of our 3 Music Practice rooms. Prices start at £3 and minimum booking is for 30 minutes. Each room has an electronic piano. These can be booked at the Customer Service Desk on the Lower Ground floor or phone 0121 242 4242.

Our events programme includes recitals, concerts and other live music featuring local artists. Visit our events schedule to find out what’s on.

You can request items from a vast amount of stock that we hold in our stack. Not all items can be searched for on the Library catalogue so speak to a member of staff.
