Improvements to Pershore Road junction
As of July 2022, we have:
- improved the safety and efficiency of the junction of Pershore Road/Priory Road/Edgbaston Road
- provided a cycleway connecting the A38 Bristol Road cycle route with the existing National Cycle Network Route 5 (NCN5) at Cannon Hill Park.
Previously, there were no formal controlled facilities to assist either pedestrians or cyclists when crossing the junction. There was also a need to make the junction operate more efficiently for all road users. Accessibility to public transport at the junction was also highlighted as an issue.
The junction provides access to local residential areas in Edgbaston, Balsall Heath and Moseley as well as providing a direct route into the city centre. Major employers and trip attractors in the local area include Edgbaston Stadium, Aldi, BMI Priory Hospital and Cannon Hill Park.
This scheme has been jointly funded by Sustrans National Cycle Network Activation Programme and Birmingham City Council.
As part of the scheme, we have made these changes:
- added pedestrian crossings on all sides of the Pershore Road, Priory Road and Edgbaston Road junction to make it safer to cross
- improved access to bus stops at the Pershore Road and Priory Road junction to support public transport use
- introduced new technology and traffic signals to help keep journey times reliable
