A38 cycle route

NCN5 is a well-established cycling and walking route and is popular with both commuters and leisure users. The following measures will connect this route from Cannon Hill Park to the city centre by linking it to the A38 cycle track which opened in 2019.

The following measures have been implemented as part of the scheme:

  • New cycling infrastructure along Priory Road and Edgbaston Road connecting the existing blue cycle route on A38 Bristol Road to Cannon Hill Park, forming a re-routed NCN5 between Cannon Hill Park and the city centre
  • 2 new dedicated cycle signal-controlled crossings – one to help cyclists cross Pershore Road between Priory Road and Edgbaston Road, and a second diagonally across Edgbaston Road where the cycleway crosses from one side of the road to the other
  • The reallocation of road space from motor vehicles to cycles on the nearside of Edgbaston Road, west of the junction with Queens Ride
