Project updates

July 2025

Throughout July, the project has been progressing well, with the team busy with rail blockade preparations and works - this has affected both the Sutton and Walsall lines, with no trains operating through these routes between 28th July and 4th August. Services have now returned to normal as of Monday 4th August.

HS Carlsteel have completed strengthening works within mainline boxes including  A23, B23, C17, D17 and D23, as well as to crossboxes B3A, B8A, D3C, D5C and D8C. Drainage repairs have been completed to Piers 12, 8 and 16, as well as drainage bracket replacements at Span 4, Line A and splice plate repairs to Span 12.

Taziker have been completing strengthening works to crossboxes B19A, D19C and D15C, along with spatter paint removal (the process of removing any paint marks) to Pier 14 crossboxes. External painting works have been completed on Span 11 (within JM Tyres' land) and Span 18, and internal painting works have been completed within the crossboxes at Pier 11. Taziker have also completed splice plate repairs to Span 14, and paint inspections within Span 11 and 16. Further painting works were also completed at Span 20-22 from a MEWP (a Mobile Elevated Working Platform) to allow access where no scaffolding has been erected.

Between 12th and 13th July, HS Carlsteel and Taziker completed weekend works, with Taziker undertaking external painting works to Span 18 and HS Carlsteel completing splice plate and drainage repairs to Span 12 lines C and D, within JM Tyres' land. HS Carlsteel continued their works the following weekend, 19th and 20th July.

Throughout the rail blockade week from 28th July to 4th August, Palmers have worked efficiently to dismantle the scaffolding around Span 11 and Spans 16-18, as works have now completed within these areas.

On 9th July, VolkerFitzpatrick held both an environmental and quality audit, which are performed regularly to ensure compliance and high standards across the site, as well as performing maintenance to our blackline safety systems. Due to works being completed within a MEWP spanning across the River Tame, we have also had an MRSL Water Rescue team situated at Span 12 as required.
