Work on the A38(M) Tame Valley Viaduct has been progressing well, marked by a key milestone this month. A full road closure on Aston Hall Road, in place for three weeks, enabled the safe dismantling of scaffold above the road. This facilitated the completion of strengthening, blasting, and painting works on Spans 4, 5, 6, and 7. Additionally, scaffolding has been erected at Span 14 to provide access for upcoming works in this area.
HS Carlsteel’s activities this month have included the strengthening of mainline boxes between Spans 15 and 24, and at crossboxes B11A, D3C, and B3A. Splice repairs were completed on Span 10 using a MEWP (Mobile Elevating Work Platform), as well as on D15 East and West during the Aston Hall Road closure. Drainage repairs have continued across Spans 3–7, 10, and 16, and the hatches on Spans 4–7 have been sealed to prevent birds and other wildlife from entering and damaging the newly completed works. Additional tasks include splice plate work, service hole adjustments, and access hatch modifications on Span 9 (located within Salts Healthcare).
Taziker have continued strengthening works on mainline boxes between Spans 25 and 27, including at DP09 near B27. Crossboxes B19A and B21A have also undergone strengthening, alongside defect repairs to D15C. Internal painting has been completed within crossboxes at Pier 18, and all external painting on Spans 4–7 was finalised ahead of the road closure and scaffold removal.
Finally, preparation is underway for the upcoming rail blockade, scheduled from Monday 28 July to Sunday 3 August. This will affect the Walsall and Sutton Coldfield lines, located at Spans 11 and 16–18. The blockade is essential to allow work to proceed safely and without risk to operatives in these areas.
