Project Update

April 2024

During the first week in April, we managed to complete all required works in the rail blockade. Rail blockades are defined as  ‘the closure of a route for an extended period, typically more than a weekend usually to allow engineering works’.

Where we need to carry out major works, they are pre-planned 12 months ahead of schedule at times which aim to cause the least disruption to commuters.

This rail blockade was crucial to the works that are required on the viaduct where it crosses over the rail line and all works were completed on time and without any issues.

On project, all internal pre-weld grit blasting has now been completed which is a huge milestone, and also means we have access within the whole bridge internally.

March 2024

During March, the project team continued to progress the blast and paint works on ‘Span 1’ which is where the viaduct goes over Queens Road.

You may have noticed the new shiny coat of paint giving the structure a new lease of life.

There has also been a lot of preparation ahead of the rail blockade which happened during the week after Easter. Rail blockades are defined as ‘the closure of a route for an extended period, typically more than a weekend usually to allow engineering works’.

Where major works are needed, works are pre-planned 12 months ahead of schedule at times which aim to cause the least disruption to commuters.
