Apply for a zoo licence
A ‘zoo’ is classed as any establishment, other than a circus or pet shop, where animals are kept for public exhibition. These businesses cannot operate without a licence.
It costs £2,670 for a new zoo licence, which is renewed after the first 4 years. Renewing a zoo licence for a further 6 years costs £2,670.
In addition to annual inspections by the Senior Animal Welfare Officer, periodic inspections must also be carried out by an inspector appointed by the Secretary of State (at least twice during each licence term) and are charged to the applicant as an additional fee.
Applying for a licence
