Where to go

Find a good dog breeder and ensure the puppy is well bred – a puppy that is interbred or bred in filthy conditions may have some serious long term health problems. It is also shocking how many puppies are trafficked or illegally imported.

Licensed dog breeders are subjected to inspections and have conditions attached to their licences, contact your local authority to ask about a licensed dog breeder in your area.

Visit the kennel club and look at their assured breeder scheme – these breeders are inspected by the kennel club.

Think about a rescued adult dog – there are lots of local animal rehoming centres and they can offer support. Rescued dogs are usually vaccinated, wormed and neutered which will reduce your initial costs. There are many dogs in need of good homes and a second chance.
