Chilcote primary school

Many schools experience traffic related issues at the start and end of the school day. Birmingham City Council is introducing Car Free School Streets to address these issues by restricting traffic in the streets surrounding some schools at drop off and pick up times.

As part of our work to encourage healthier, greener and safer travel to school, we are pleased that Chilcote Primary School will be taking part in a pilot of this scheme from September 2019. This will reduce congestion and improve air quality at the school gates as well as making it easier and safer to walk or cycle to school.

From September 2019 the following restrictions will be in place:
Where Chilcote Close
When Monday to Friday, 8:15am to 9:15am and 2:45pm to 3:45pm

During these times, most vehicles will not be able to drive into the road(s) covered by this restriction. Signage will be in place at the entrance(s) to the restricted zone.

As a local resident you will be able to apply for a permit to access your property. There will be some exemptions that will permit traffic to use these roads at these times, including blue badge holders and emergency services.

Anyone else driving in the restricted zone at these times without a valid permit or exemption can be issued with a Fixed Penalty Notice charge of £50.

Parents/carers travelling from further away will be asked to park a short distance away from the school and walk the last part of their journey.

This change will be made using an Experimental Traffic Regulation Order (ETRO) which can stay in place for a maximum of 18 months. During this time, we will monitor and assess the effect of this change before deciding whether it should be made permanent. As part of this, we will be inviting feedback on the scheme from parents/carers and local residents.

Thank you for helping to make our School Streets cleaner, greener, safer and a more pleasant environment for everyone.
