Coronavirus (COVID-19):

Coronavirus remains a serious health risk. It’s important to stay cautious and help protect yourself and others. Please continue to follow national government advice.

Do you want your school to be included?

In the new academic year 2020 to 2021, we’ll be working with a number of schools to expand the scheme.

This part time closure of streets to traffic will not be appropriate for all schools. A selection process will be used to assess the suitability of any schools who are interested in being part of this and to prioritise those to be included. The current expression of interest process has now closed.

In light of COVID-19, Birmingham City Council are supporting schools with planning for increased attendance by pupils of different ages, focusing particularly on sustainable travel to schools and safe social distancing at drop off and collection times. For further information regarding ;the installation of emergency school streets measures including Car Free School Streets, reducing speeds and restricting parking measures please email us:

All schools in Birmingham are able to benefit through the existing Modeshift STARS scheme, which offers support and rewards to schools for taking steps to promote safer, greener and healthier travel.
