Learning disabilities and autism quality champions team
Our aims
The learning disabilities and autism quality champions team aims to improve health and social care services and tackle inequalities by sharing how autistic people and people with ADHD or learning disabilities experience them.
We want to ensure services offer person-centred support and make reasonable adjustments, so that people enjoy their best life.
How we improve services
We bring together people who:
- are autistic, have ADHD or a learning disability, or care for someone who does
- live in Birmingham
- have used health or social care services in Birmingham in the last 5 years
Our champions get involved in a variety of ways including:
- taking part in meetings to plan, develop, or monitor services
- visiting sites to monitor and give feedback on services
- contributing ideas, making suggestions, and taking part in decisions
- helping to improve communications to make them clear and accessible
- helping to design and deliver training
Our projects
Some of our projects to drive the improvement of health and social care services include:
- helping develop the All Age Autism Support Service
- reviewing and reporting on the Autism Friendly Communities pilot location in Northfield
- working with Serco Leisure and Birmingham hospices to assess how accessible their settings are, provide suggestions and highlight good practice
- presenting lived experience journeys of autism and ADHD at the Birmingham Autism and ADHD Summit in May 2024
