Hinks and son - Crystal lamp works

Hinks and son crystal lamp works trade card

James Hinks & Sons Crystal Lamp Works located on the corner of Great Hampton Street and Hockley Street was in business by 1858. The company also had a base in London.

Lamps produced by the company did not require frequent trimming nor give off nasty smoke and smells. In 1864, the company developed the duplex lamp which used two wicks to give off twice the light. The lamp remained innovative until the advent of electric lighting.

James retired in 1898 handing the company to his son, Joseph. The latter became mayor of Leamington Spa in 1890 and 1892
