The Britannia

The britannia photograph

Two photographs of the Britannia in Aston. The first most likely taken in the 1970s or early 1980s, and the second in 2012. The Britannia was rebuilt for Mitchells and Butlers, on the site of a previous public house known as the Aston Hall Tavern. The Aston Hall Tavern had existed since 1867 but in 1872& changed its name to the Britannia.

The current Britannia has stood at 287 Lichfield Road since c1900, and its decorative facade remains largely unchanged. Atop the pub sits Britannia herself, equipped with helmet and trident, she faces down the Lichfield Road towards Birmingham City Centre.
