According to an interview with Stone in The Strand Magazine (1910), the portrait of David Lloyd George (Britain's first and only Welsh Prime Minister) 'was taken in the middle of the budget debate. He showed signs of stress, but comforted himself by the thought of bringing his measure safe into port. "Mid-stream" murmured Sir Benjamin. "I will photograph you in mid-stream."
