The Aviva Series returns to Birmingham on Saturday 18 February 2012 for more exhilarating action as the world’s best athletes head to the NIA for the Aviva Grand Prix.
Widely regarded as the world’s best indoor athletics event, the Aviva Grand Prix brings together stars from the Aviva GB&NI team with elite athletes from around the globe for an afternoon of exhilarating athletics action. With the IAAF World Indoor Championships being held in March, the athletes will be hoping for morale-boosting performances in front of what is always a passionate and knowledgeable Birmingham crowd.
Away from the track, there will be a host of fun-filled activities and delicious refreshments available for athletics fans of all ages to enjoy.

McCain Inter Counties Cross Country & Challenge Final

Cross Country runners from England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales will compete in Birmingham from all age groups in a fantastic day of Cross Country running.
This is the third consecutive year that this event has been held in Birmingham and more than 5000 competitors are expected to take part over the day.
The action starts at 11am and is free for spectators.

Yonex All England Open Badminton Championships

The best badminton players in the world return to Birmingham for the 102nd championships which will also serve towards Olympic qualification for London 2012.
An exciting week of badminton will see men’s and women’s competitions along with doubles and mixed doubles competitions too.

Sport Relief is back – and it’s coming to Birmingham! The city is set to host one of the flagship Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Miles on Sunday 25th March, and needs Brummies to show their support by entering now at www.sportrelief.com
This year, over one million people are expected to pull up their socks and take part in the Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile in order to raise some serious cash for vulnerable people right here in Birmingham, across the UK and in the world’s poorest countries.
Join thousands of people amidst the city’s iconic sights, including the majestic Victoria Square and St Philips Cathedral. The route will be packed full of entertainment and friendly faces (some famous) to cheer you on. Last time, more than 4900 people took part in the Birmingham Mile, and the people of the West Midlands raised and donated a massive £2.3 million. Since then, more than £2.2 million has been spent on local projects in the West Midlands.
Celebrating the UK’s biggest year of sport, a whole host of famous faces from the world of sport and entertainment will be taking part in Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile events across the length and breadth of the UK on Sunday 25th March including Olly Murs, Lorraine Kelly, Kara Tointon and James Cracknell among many others. 2012 UCI BMX World Championships

The 2012 UCI BMX World Championships are coming to Birmingham this May in what is the biggest annual prize in BMX racing, with the world’s best riders chasing the right to wear the coveted rainbow stripes for the following 12 months. As an Olympic sport in an Olympic year, the event takes on extra significance as it is the last event in which nations can secure valuable qualification points as they strive to earn their place at the London Olympic Games in what promises to be the most spectacular World Championships ever.
Birmingham’s National Indoor Arena will play host to the world’s best BMX talent from May 24th-27th, featuring over 2,000 riders from across the globe, including Olympic GB hopefuls Shanaze Reade and Liam Phillips who will be gunning for world titles in their last major outing before the London 2012 Olympics.

International cricket returns to Birmingham
International cricket returns to Birmingham in 2012 when England take on the West Indies in the third Test Match of the Investec Series on Thursday 7th June.
Currently ranked as the world’s number one Test Match team, Edgbaston Stadium is offering ‘kids for quids’ tickets on Day 1 of the Test, whilst groups can save up to 37.5% .
