How to watch Birmingham’s Service of Remembrance

While there will be no public event in the city centre, people looking to remember the fallen will be able to watch by visiting the cathedral’s website at 10:55am.

Due to the latest national lockdown, the Cathedral service will take place without a congregation, but a wreath will be laid by the clergy on behalf of the people and the city of Birmingham.

People are also encouraged to carry out their own acts of remembrance at home or school - such as playing the Last Post, reading a poem, paying tribute to relatives who served - and to share online using he hashtag #BhamRemembers.

Lord Mayor of Birmingham, Cllr Mohammed Azim, said: “It is very sad we are unable to gather together for the city’s annual Remembrance Sunday, but we will still remember the fallen who sacrificed so much.

“As the pandemic continues and we find ourselves in lockdown again, I’m asking Birmingham’s citizens to watch the live-streamed service from St Philip’s Cathedral and take time to remember the men and women who died while serving their country.

“Please pay your respects at home and do not come into the city centre. We will remember them, wherever we are.”

Individuals and organisations that wish to have a wreath laid at the Hall of Memory can arrange for them to be delivered to the Council House’s gatehouse entrance, Chamberlain Square, by 5pm on Friday (6 November). These will be laid on their behalf.

The Service of Remembrance will be available to watch on the cathedral’s website until the end of this year.
